Four Aussie retailers make the finals of Oracle World Retail Awards

Four Australian businesses have been listed as finalists in the Oracle World Retail Awards.

Online white goods retailer Appliances Online and custom shoe supplier Shoes of Prey have been announced as finalists in the ‘etailer of the year – pureplay’ category. They are joined by four other finalists from China, the USA, and the UK.

“It’s an honor to be recognized as a finalist for this prestigious global award. Since establishing Appliances Online in 2005, my team and I have been committed to building a truly unique and innovative online business.  Online retail is a huge growth industry and we’re so proud to be a part of it,” said John Winning, CEO of Appliances Online.

The Salvation Army Salvo Stores also scored a finalist spot in the ‘responsible retailer of the year’ category, and Myer Group notched a spot for store design of the year.

Winners of the world retail awards will be announced on September 27th at the German Historical Museum in Berlin.

“The biggest fallacy about running an online business is that you go online so you don’t need to interact with customers,” added Winning. “We spend a lot of our time listening to what our customers need, and the rest of the time delivering it to them. We believe our core value promise of providing high-level customer service is a key reason for Appliances Online being identified as an ‘etailer of the year’ finalist.”

“We also utilize social media platforms to find new ways of interacting with our customers to answer their questions, offer advice, and provide them great deals on appliances such as the washing machine. The Facebook page for Appliances Online now has a 150,000 strong community,” he said.

The awards are being judged by a 15-member panel that includes Bernie Brookes, CEO of Myer Limited, and Mike Webster, senior vice president of Oracle Retail.
